How we work

Watch Fire Magazine explains major wildfires as they happen: what is going on, how a fire develops and what it means for the people nearby. Calm, factual and without sensation.

Who we are

Watch Fire is an independent wildfire information service, accessible to everyone. The magazine is written by the Watch Fire editorial team, together with the live map that follows fires worldwide.

Where our information comes from

Every fire starts with satellite data from NASA. What happens on the ground comes from news reports, fire services and official sources; their names and links are under every article.

Living articles

When a large fire keeps burning, we update the same article instead of writing a new one. The time of the last update is at the top of the article.

Limits and corrections

A satellite sees heat, not flames, and passes only a few times a day. Our estimates are therefore indications, not official figures. In an emergency, always follow the authorities.

Spotted a mistake? Let us know and we will correct it as soon as possible.
